Many of our Utah readers are familiar with Porsha Williams thanks to her time on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” as well as her recent divorce proceedings from former National Football League star Kordell Stewart.

The two have been battling in court, with property division at the middle of things. With a prenuptial agreement in place, Stewart was able to protect himself by ensuring that none of his assets would go to Williams in the event of a divorce.

After 22 months of marriage, when the couple finally met in court, she did not have much of an upper hand. As a result, she was permitted to keep her engagement ring as well as any jewelry and clothing received during their time together. Along with this, Stewart paid her attorney fees.

Williams did not receive the couple’s home, any of his retirement funds or health insurance. Along with this, Stewart is not being required to pay alimony at this time. He is permitted to keep both his homes, cars and retirement money from his playing days.

For the time being, Williams continues to earn money from her appearances on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”

When it comes to property division, each divorce is different. In this case, Williams and Stewart did not run into many issues, thanks to the fact that a prenuptial agreement was signed before they tied the knot nearly two years ago.

For those who are getting married soon or going through a divorce, the thought of future property division challenges should be considered. The advice of an experienced family law attorney can prove beneficial.
